Very dainty pretty salubrious recipe. I used all the aforementioned ingredients just changed upward the prep order to make it easier for me to put together on a busy day. I diced up the onion, carrots (used a lot more than carrots) celery. Cooked the beefiness, added the onions, carrots and celery and cooked that a chip, added the broth & bouillon cube, tomato sauce - brought to a low simmer - added the potatoes and turned the estrus down to low and let simmer - just before serving I added the cabbage and permit simmer while the rolls broiled. No added table salt was needed. Perfectly easy weeknight meal. This can all be washed using the crockpot - start of the stove and finish the simmer and cabbage in the crockpot.

Exactly what I was looking for! It tasted exactly similar what I grew upwardly on at my Grandma's house. Excellent flavor - definitely a comfort nutrient for me!

I absolutely loved this recipe merely I did make some changes. Instead of the tomato sauce I used 1 14.five oz can of diced tomatoes with the juice and a modest can of tomato paste. I too added a tin of drained corn and a gutted and diced jalapeno to add a lilliputian kicking. I added these forth with the remainder of the veggies and let it simmer for 70 minutes. Both myself and my partner absolutely loved it!

Splendid stew! I brand this in the crock pot. Just brown the meat, put it in the crock pot and cover with the rest of the ingredients. Cook on low all day and information technology comes out peachy! Another bully excuse to eat cabbage. Great as-is, but I've too added corn, peas, cauliflower, etc.
11/03/2013
My wife can brand a great stew and i take been trying to make a recipe to vanquish hers and have smashing flavor with tender meat and done vegies that didnt taste like some chemical, well this recipe beat hers by far. I didn't change anything, the beefiness was real tender, the goop had great flavor and the cabbage made this stew even amend. You lot have to attempt this recipe, y'all will brand this again. My wife actually liked this stew and admitted it that it gustation meliorate and then hers.
12/28/2012
I made this recipe in my force per unit area cooker and information technology cutting the cooking time down to well-nigh 35 minutes. It turned out perfectly. I browned the beef in a piffling oil for about 12 minutes, pressure cooked the meat, goop, onion, and spices for 15 minutes, added the veggies and force per unit area cooked for seven minutes, added the love apple sauce and pressure cooked for 1 minute. Fabled!
xi/27/2012
Prepared this recipe exactly like the original with no changes. It turned out perfect! Very tasty the first day and the leftovers were even amend the 2d day. Yous will non be disappointed. Smashing recipe, and I'll definitely make this one again.
01/19/2013
ok, is information technology fair to give this 5 stars when I didn't follow the recipe? I just had to because this soup is so delicious and soooooo good for us!!! I used 1 pound of beef, 15 oz tomato sauce, vi cups of beefiness goop, 4 large handful of coleslaw mix (Sam'due south club), 2 large carrots, 1 onion, ane c each of frozen green beans and corn and table salt and pepper...and 1 tsp of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes. OH WOW! unproblematic, delicious, hearty, healthy goodness in a basin. Exactly what I desire my family to swallow to nourish themselves!!! the twenty minutes of simmering are most up and the troops are starting to circle!!! I've taste-tested a little bowl already and I tin can hardly expect for more!!!!
07/21/2013
Very adept and easy to fix. I followed the recipe to the T, but added cayenne pepper at the end for extra kick.
01/29/2015
How skilful can beef and cabbage gustation? Honestly? Well allow me tell ya, this recipe made a believer out of me! Apparently I was skeptical but I followed the directions to a tee and had some religion-it's rated five stars after all. Now I know why. Won't make whatever changes when I make this once again. Neat recipe. Thanks Paul
x/27/2014
Fantastic season. The but changes I made was I did non measure the cabbage I just added the whole head, why mensurate if you love cabbage. I also added roasted garlic. I always have some in my fridge and it makes a great addition to whatever dish.
04/thirteen/2013
something then piece of cake my swain went crazy over... every bite literally said wow... i don't get it... it was similar the easiest recipe... time consuming but like shooting fish in a barrel and he was totally having his moment with this meal.. and i spend so much time on exotic recipes... geez i'll make this one again. I left out the tomato sauce because i didnt wanna keep digging in the cupboard

As someone who doesn't eat enough vegetables, I was looking for a recipe to become more veggies into my nutrition. This really did the trick! My young man loves it. Nosotros follow the directions mostly as listed (sometimes leaving out the onion, because I don't like them), and it always turns out nifty. The cabbage is the star of the dish. We beloved to add TONS of cabbage to this recipe, particularly considering the cabbage shrinks as it cooks. I took away one star though because the tomato sauce season is very overpowering. Although my boyfriend loves the tomato flavor, I do not, and we accept started using half a can to reduce the strong tomato season a flake. It'due south still delicious, only with the full can of tomato plant sauce, all I could taste was tomato, and I really wanted to enjoy the other flavors in the dish. Half a can works for the states. It keeps the tomato flavor in the dish without overpowering the other flavors at piece of work. Overall, cracking recipe! Really enjoyed information technology, and it is now i of our "regulars"! :)
12/04/2013
Very disappointed with this recipe. Our old standby swiss steak in the crockpot is much better than this. I won't be making this again.
01/21/2014
I included a 1/2c of marsala wine and a few pinches of herbs and it came out with a nice season and very rich sauce. Very proficient!
01/17/2013
Unproblematic and hearty recipe. We initially made the soup exactly every bit instructed only concluded upwards doubling up on the broth halfway through. We will definitely make again. Thanks so much for the recipe!
06/04/2016
I made it exactly except used napa cabbage and maybe an actress bullion cube...it was GREAT!!!! I am looking at the critical review by Peggy and shakin my head!!! Never get in once more??? Perhaps yous didn't make it right the first time....geeeez....Thanks for the recipe....PEACE
10/28/2014
I've never made a successful stew before but this 1 turned out swell.... The fundamental was to cook the stew meat long and dull to become it tender and to throw your vegetables in during the last cooking hour which for me was at the 1 and half hour marking. I did brand some adjustments just nothing farthermost. I used ii and half pounds stew meat. I used meat tenderizer on the stew while I browned the meat. I added 8 scarlet potatoes since they were already on mitt. Added corn. four cups of beef unsalted broth. A browning agent. And as well added a one-half cup of carbohydrate to eliminate the acids from the red sauce since I'chiliad not a fan of mixing ruddy and brown gravys in the first place. My moving-picture show of finished product is in the gallery...
01/ten/2015
I have made beef stew and it is good ,but this recipe was even better, more nutritious, and lower in calories. I put everything into a pressure cooker and cooked it about an hour. It was delicious.
03/02/2014
I was afraid it'd be bland then added a salubrious tablespoon of diced garlic (from a jar) during the meat/onion stage. As well added a dash of cayenne pepper for a niggling kick. I needed 2-iii extra cups of broth after adding the vegetables to requite it a nice consistency. We similar our stew thick and hearty but demand plenty liquid to dip slices of crusty baguette. Instead of shredding the cabbage, I sliced it thin near one/iv inch thick and kept the pieces ane inch long. Nifty recipe! Other additions/swaps that might not make a difference but you might like, added a can of corn, used 3 oz of tomato paste, diced tomato's instead of sauce. We didn't accept celery. I like it only didn't miss it. I added 2 tablespoons of flour mixed with ane/ii cup water at the very terminate to give information technology the stew consistency I'm used to my Grandma making.
11/11/2013
Great start Recipe I used Beef stock for added flavor and put more veggies in then it called for. It did have longer for the veggies to tenderize but I did permit fourth dimension for that. It had great flavor and the extra cooking fourth dimension just tenderized the meat more.
ten/28/2014
Starting time off, I followed the recipe exactly except for draining the grease because there seemed to be very little. It was simply mostly moisture from the meat. At present I volition tell yous that I was very doubtful of this recipe most of the time while it was cooking, through all phases. I'm a sampler and I kept dipping my spoon in and thinking that I was going to take to help it a lot to make it edible. I at present have the tomato plant sauce in and even so it's merely blah. However, after about 20 minutes, the flavor came together and information technology was fantastic. Nevertheless, it did require a fair bit of table salt. I'yard very happy that I didn't drain the juice at the start because the gravy ratio was merely perfect as it was and I recollect it may accept been also dry without it. Thanks for a great recipe!
01/20/2019
I used purple cabbage looked atrocious but tasted great. I had to utilise upward the leftover regal cabbage from a unlike recipe. Lol!
01/12/2013
This is so good! Specially the side by side day later on flavors meld. Yummy!
10/29/2014
But change I made was to cook in my pressure level cooker. Full recipe took about 1 hr start to finish. Actually impressed the grand aunt and was so easy!!
01/05/2014
Excellent stew! I coated the meat with flour before browning it. That was the only change I made and everyone enjoyed their meal. I will definitely adopt this recipe!
05/05/2013
This recipe is very good. I am not a celery person, and then I left the celery out completely! I prepared it exactly as written minus celery and information technology is very yummy. It took longer than 45 minutes for my potatoes and carrots to get tender but that but helped my stew meat to get even softer! It was yummy!
09/14/2013
Excellent! I added garlic just otherwise left the recipe unchanged. Anybody in the family loves this.
10/08/2018
I increased the amount of liquids and veggies adding, turnip, mushrooms more carrots, celery, potato and onion as well equally the stew meat. So and so expert! My husband LOVED it!
12/18/2016
I fabricated this recipe today and it was wonderful. My husband wants me to brand it again thus Friday to take to a family gathering.
01/23/2015
I dont know what I did wrong? Subsequently 1 hr there was virtually no liquid in the pot cooking the meat. I had the temp on 4, but I was using my wider 3" pot with a hat. That is typically a simer with it. After 1 hour, I ended upwardly having to add v cups of water. The meat was enough tender, so I just added the vegetables at that signal. I simmered it about 45 more than minutes, adding the tomato sauce at some betoken. My only change was calculation an extra carrot and using a 10oz handbag of shredded cabbacabbage, which equaled four cups approximately. A fleck of my potatoes did disolve, forth with the cabbage, just it thickened the soup anyhow. I similar all the vegetables in this, only for me that is a long time sitting over a pot. I near halved all the cooking times and it was however enough. I rated this a 4 for flavor. Its really pretty skilful and much less salty tasting than other stews. Simply a little too fourth dimension consuming for a calendar week night repast for me.
x/11/2013
this was a good recipe
10/27/2014
Made it in pressure cooker. Cooked meat kickoff. Then added veggies at cease. Whole thing done in 30 mins. Kiddos and Dad loved information technology.
ten/01/2016
DIDN'T CHANGE A Thing. Bang-up TWIST ON Beefiness STEW!
12/03/2012
I made this stew as submitted except I substituted a large container of mirepoix for the onion, carrot and celery. Piece of cake, rich, delicious.
11/10/2013
This was delicious! Threw in some frozen corn while I was at it- yum! The whole family loved it. :)
12/sixteen/2016
Very good. Be careful not to add likewise much tomato sauce or it takes over the flavor.
09/08/2018
Very good!! Fabricated per directions just added a little more broth & was quite pleased.
03/29/2020
Didn't change a affair. Perfect as is!
01/23/2014
It was my commencement time making this and it turned out dandy with a few minor changes. First, I used 6oz lycopersicon esculentum paste instead of tomato sauce. Side by side, I added my own spices and used bell peppers & mushrooms (I didn't have whatever celery). Lastly, I through in the tomato paste in the pot forth with the potatoes, carrots, and everything else and cook it on medium/low temperature. Overall it took me about two and a one-half hours :~)
03/30/2018
This is probably the best beef stew I've made in a long fourth dimension. My other half rave d nearly it and wished it made more than. Nosotros were a bit Leary of the cabbage, merely I followed the recipe to the T and we were pleasantly surprised. It's a keeper!
01/04/2015
Loved and did not make whatsoever changes.

Very flavorful and hearty. Prepared in pressure cooker on high. Saute beef and onion, add all ingredients except potatoes and cook for 20 minutes. Release pressure, add together potatoes and cook some other xx minutes. Used beef gravy instead of beef stock and pizza sauce instead of tomato sauce to amp it up! Served with warm bootleg ciabatta bread....Fantastic flavour.
08/27/2018
I doubled the recipe. Turned out great. My married woman said I could have drained more grease off on he browning the meat step. Other wise tasted keen. Ill do it again.
x/09/2014
OMG! I just finished a huge bowl of this and would accept had more if I wasn't so blimp! I've been cooking for the last four and a half decades and have made more than my share of stews. I would have to say that this is the best darned pot of stew that I've ever made! Now, I can't stand up folks who rate a recipe 5 stars and so become on to tell you the myriad changes they made to the original. Submit your own recipe if your version is so terrific. That existence said, LOL, here are the minimal changes that I made. For wellness reasons I used reduced sodium broth and salt free love apple sauce. I likewise plant a table salt free onion soup mix and used a tablespoon of that instead of the cube of common salt-laden bullion. I also left out the celery as I didn't have any and caramelized the onions to add a flake more depth of flavour. Other than that, I followed the recipe as written. Oh, I added a bit of flour towards the end equally I am not partial to thin stew. Even with the salt reduced to most nothing, the taste was wonderful. All the flavors melded together without whatever ane ingredient outshining the others. All in all, a very easy, flavorful stew for a chilly or raw fall or winter night. Thank you Paul for submitting.
05/16/2019
this was a very good recipe an easy to brand
12/30/2019
Added fresh parsley and fifteen ounce of tomato sauce.
01/03/2019
Admittedly the All-time stew recipe that I have made. It was a hit. I added more than vegetable, therefore adjusted the broth and bouillon. Otherwise made as stated.
04/23/2016
just made and it was very proficient. I added Sazon, Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb common salt free and sofrito (dwelling house fabricated from scratch). I didn't add salt crusade Sazon has common salt.
07/06/2019
I made this stew and loved it. I merely didn't add together tomato paste considering it normally does have an overpowering taste. I simply diced up two tomatoes and included it. Overall it was good and what I felt like eating on this rainy Sat evening.
01/xvi/2020
And so good! I followed the recipe exactly with the exception of the added salt at the terminate. As at to the lowest degree one other reviewer noted, I was concerned I didn't take nearly plenty liquid after adding the cabbage and veggies and cooking for 30 mins. More time and fifty-fifty more time with the tomato plant paste saved things without me adding more than liquid.
01/07/2014
Succulent! I doubled the broth and added garlic while the meat was simmering. Otherwise I kept everything else the same.
09/eighteen/2014
Let me join the ranks of the raving reviewers. I am usually not a stew lover but I had some top round steak I needed to utilize and found this recipe. I made it exactly as written (with the exception of not peeling the potatoes) and it was delicious. Merely the right consistency and the cabbage flavor is very subtle. I'll definitely be making it again.
01/29/2019
I concord its a fiddling time consuming BUT well worth information technology. Simply changes were one extra carrot and used almost 4 cups os broth due to it simmering and cooking down. Excellent!!!
x/13/2014
The perfect stew! We do make changes according to some of the reviews but I call back it would be groovy without them. We add some red vino, apply beefiness stock and no water. Add two cloves of pressed garlic while browning the onions, before we add the meat back in. Will be a regular dinner during fall and winter.
05/05/2016
I made this last weekend and it was excellent, except I had leftover vegetables (I used my minor crock pot instead of the large 1). So, I am looking for another recipe to use them on this weekend.
08/29/2017
Great recipe I make every bit is, with no onion. I make simple spanish rice to go with information technology. I place a spoon total of rice in a bowl and so add soup on top. Very succulent.
08/01/2013
Good start, but triple or quadruple -- I ordinarily brand enough soup to freeze at least 8 quarts for future employ and to give some to my kids. I also boil finely shredded onions and cabbage (nigh a whole head) -- they just about dissolve and give the soup body. This is the base for my vegetable beefiness soup -- add lots of veggies - try rutabega, acorn squash, turnips. I eat vegetables in my soup that I'd never eat on their own. I leave out the potatoes as they don't freeze well, simply y'all tin can put 1/two cup barley or tiny macaroni instead.
12/18/2017
Followed the recipe exactly. It was great on a cold wintertime day!
12/16/2015
This recipe has become a favorite of our family. It is perfect as described. Equally additional preference I have added a picayune more than Cabbage and a 2nd can of Lycopersicon esculentum sauce.
xi/28/2016

02/24/2016
Turned out slap-up, I used twice the carrots and twice the potatoes. Also, I served over a bed of wild rice. The cabbage took longer than stated to fully melt.
01/30/2020
This recipe it is splendid. I fabricated information technology for my family unit 1 day and I turned around had to double the recipe because it seem like it'south but wasn't enough. The only slight change I made is when I browned the beef I added a bear on of basil and a pinch of salt. I definitely will make this again and again.
09/18/2016
I love information technology. I added more than carrots celery and potatoes. Simply it is very tasty. More spicy than what I look. But very hearty and delicious.
01/eleven/2015
I love this recipe! Recently fabricated and followed direction the only affair I add together was chicken wings. Just similar my mom stew with the wings. Yummm
03/26/2015
Tasty. Piece of cake to make. Plus it got my Hubby to eat and actually enjoy veggies.
10/27/2014
Delicious. I have never cared for traditional stew, but loved this. I simply made a couple of minor changes. I used turnips instead of potatoes since my hubby is diabetic. I think the turnips made it better than potatoes would have. I also used organic "improve that boullion" for boullion and broth since I was using grass fed organic beef.
09/23/2021
Fantastic! Don't be agape to use more cabbage, carrots, etc., just add together more broth. It is astounding.
12/13/2017
I made this in my crock pot, it was delicious!
05/22/2018

01/27/2015
Perfect recipe. I was hesitant about the cabbage at first just was surprised how well it worked with this stew. I volition definitely be making this again.
01/twenty/2020
Dandy recipe. I incorporated a few changes simply tried to limit them to keep truthful to the original recipe. I dusted the beefiness cubes with seasoned flour before browning them to help thicken the broth. I substituted brussel sprouts that I quartered instead of shredded cabbage and added mushrooms. Very hearty and succulent. Thanks for sharing.
01/14/2018
Goodness, this stew was amazing! I added actress vegetables and more goop.
01/05/2016
Amazing flavor!
12/15/2019
I loved this recipe. I omitted the potatoes because my husband is going low carb. Wanted to arrive more than of a soup then a stew so added extra beef broth, carrots and celery. I threw in a package of beefy onion soup mix to give it extra flavor and sprinkled in some garlic salt. The terminate consequence was exactly every bit I wanted.
12/23/2019
Delicious!!
01/09/2018
Just similar grandma used to make, this is easy and flavorful.
09/29/2016
Added one med rutabaga and a actress carrot
01/03/2016
Wow! This recipe was easy and delicious. A fleck time consuming but definitely worth it to get the full flavor blended and the meat extra tender. I needed to add together more than beef broth to comprehend my meat and so a bit more when I added the potatoes. I too added one clove of garlic and some rosemary. I plan to make this once again and add even more than cabbage adjacent time.
05/05/2014
Don't change a thing. I have to double the recipe for my family of 5 because they fight over the tiny amount of leftovers from just ane batch ;)
11/23/2012
I fabricated this tonight, it was awesome, my family loved it. I will definitely keep this recipe and will be making it once more.
04/02/2014
I added turnip, parsnip and made a big batch. Information technology turned out great my family's loved information technology.
11/08/2015
Pretty proficient stew, although I had to make a few small additions. The stew itself is quite elementary, however I had to add a chip of flour in order to thicken it upward. I too simply added 1/2 a tin of the tomato paste, and used a small can of diced tomatoes instead of only the full can of lycopersicon esculentum paste. The end consequence was pretty skilful! Oh, I also added a tiny bit more than beef flavor every bit well!
07/06/2016
Very Practiced!!!!!!
05/26/2016
I added red vino, bay leaves, fresh rosemary and thyme. Accept fabricated this for years without the cabbage! Much ameliorate with cabbage! Thanks!
12/16/2016
Exactly what I needed while I was ill. Browned the meat, carmalized the onions, scraped the brown $.25 off the pan then put it all in the crockpot for the solar day.
01/12/2019
Only the all-time ive tasted
10/eleven/2016
Dearest this stew! The only things I inverse, considering of personal preferences, were I exchanged celery seed for the chopped celery, added peas and more carrots, cooked information technology in a crockpot all day, and added a thickener just before serving. I doubled the recipe because I know my married man was going to honey it as well. It'due south a keeper!
12/18/2017
Followed the recipe exactly. It was great on a cold winter day!
xi/29/2016
My hubby, who HATES stews, asked if I could make this over again. I made information technology in our Instapot. Pressed the "meat" option after each improver and pressure cooked it multiple times. Melt-in-your-oral cavity tastiness.
08/thirteen/2015
I brand it just similar the recipe but add together a little extra h2o. I double it and freeze it. I add together the potatoes later then they don't plow to mush afterwards I freeze it. I besides use new potatoes with the pare on. I've fabricated this several times.
08/xv/2013
Oh my goodness, this turned out delicious! I only added extra carrots and followed the recipe.. I made two pots at once (one for the freezer) and information technology cost me around $10. My kids keep coming in and maxim dinner smells great : ) im going to serve with rice and a sweet cornbread!
03/23/2016
This is the well-nigh succulent recipe on here! I've made it a dozen times and never fails.
02/09/2018
I fabricated it as directed. It was piece of cake and delicious. Except I did use 3 carrots instead of i, and 1.v lbs baby golden potatoes cubed. I had to add together a trivial more than liquid when I added the veggies. I liked that I could get the meat and onions in and cooking and so accept my time getting veggies prepped. Meat was tender and flavor was excellent. I was happy with the dish. It was as good or better the next solar day. Thank you for submission!
03/30/2017
Love this recipe! Did not accept plenty of the beefiness broth so I added a tin of "Yes" Beef and Lentil Soup with a tin can of water. My married man loved it!
eleven/04/2018
Information technology is soooo yummy ! I seared the meat, and when the last batch was washed, I scraped up the chocolate-brown bits with some of the stock - cooked it low & slow till the meat was tender - I doubled the potatoes & carrots - left out the celery ( not a fan of the flavor of cooked celery ) I did S & P for each footstep No slurry needed, the starchy potatoes did the job
10/12/2018
I made a combination betwixt this recipe and another ane. Information technology was delicious! I took the advice from someone else who altered the recipe and added 1 TBSP of A-ane and Worcestershire sauce. From my become to seasonings I added Oregano, Turmeric ,Kosher table salt and Creole seasoning to give it a kick! Results one happy family, fifty-fifty my pickiest eater ate information technology all. A slap-up fashion to get my children to swallow cabbage which I dear merely they do not.
07/12/2015
Delicious! It's great over Rice too. I was out of bay leafage and I added a little garlic pulverisation.
